Elder Abuse Awareness Week – with discount coupon

This is elder abuse awareness week what is elder abuse?  It’s not something you hear too much about, but you should be aware of it, what to look for and how to prevent or stop it.

The elderly can be victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect.  Every year many thousands of elderly are subjected to this abhorrent behavior.  This can occur in nursing homes or other senior care facilities, in caregiver’s homes or even in their own homes.  Perpetrators range from caregivers, strangers, and even family members.

We at home-spy-shop.com get a lot of feedback about our products and their uses, and one of the uses we are most proud of is that of helping to find and stop elder abuse.

You may have a beloved senior in your life or other elderly person that you suspect is being abused or taken advantage of.  We want to empower you to help that elder.   In this blog I’ll share some resources on elder abuse, give you some ideas on what you can do, and also offer you a discount on our products for Elder Abuse Awareness Week.

What are the warning signs of elder abuse?

(from US Dept. Health, Administration on Aging)

While one sign does not necessarily indicate abuse, some tell-tale signs that there could be a problem are:

  • Bruises, pressure marks, broken bones, abrasions, and burns may be an indication of physical abuse, neglect, or mistreatment.
  • Unexplained withdrawal from normal activities, a sudden change in alertness, and unusual depression may be indicators of emotional abuse.
  • Bruises around the breasts or genital area can occur from sexual abuse.
  • Sudden changes in financial situations may be the result of exploitation.
  • Bedsores, unattended medical needs, poor hygiene, and unusual weight loss are indicators of possible neglect.
  • Behavior such as belittling, threats, and other uses of power and control by spouses are indicators of verbal or emotional abuse.
  • Strained or tense relationships, frequent arguments between the caregiver and elderly person are also signs.

Most importantly, be alert. The suffering is often in silence. If you notice changes in a senior’s personality or behavior, you should start to question what is going on.

Remember, it is not your role to verify that abuse is occurring, only to alert others of your suspicions. Please visit the webpage What If I Suspect Abuse, Neglect, or Exploitation? to learn what you should do if you are concerned that someone you know is being abused.

Confirming your suspicions

If you’re worried that someone you know is being abused, we highly recommend finding out the truth and getting proof.  One of the best ways to do that is with a hidden camera.  We have heard of great results of customers who have learned the truth about their seniors’ care.

For a situation such as this we recommend a self-contained, all-in-one hidden camera.  This way there will be no wires and the device will be well-hidden.  We recommend getting a camera with a removable memory card (usually an SD card or MicroSD card) so that when you visit your loved one, you can take the memory card with the secretly-recorded video, and replace it with a new card to use while you look at the videos of what has been going on.

Here are three of our most popular cameras for elder abuse situations.
